There's more than 143 million kids nationwide without a permanent home. Some local churches are banding together to try and change that.

Bethany Christian Services helped to host an event Thursday night at Resurrection Life Church. Through speakers, personal experiences and bands they hope to make people think more seriously about adoption. Many of the families at the show have already chosen to adopt. Like the Baron's, they brought home 8-year-old Antonela last year right before Christmas.

"There's just nothing like parenting a child who knows what it's like not to have a mom and a dad and who can look at you and touch your face and say, 'I've been waiting so long for a mom. And I love you so much mom," said parent Katie Baron.

But it's not only taking a child into your home. Organizers say people could also help the cause through donations or groups that raise awareness about orphans and adoption.
