Crisis counselors are on hand today at a Battle Creek area high school, after a well-liked student was killed in a car accident last night.

17 Year old Felicia Heffel was driving east on Pennfield Road near Pine Lake Road in Pennfield Township Wednesday night around 10:45. The car she was driving, a 2005 Ford Focus left the road and struck a tree, according to deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office. Felicia was pronounced dead at the scene.

Felicia played softball last year, and was the Captain of the Varsity Bowling team. She also was part of the 21st Century After School Program, working with young children in the Battle Creek Area.

Pennfield High School released a statement saying, "Felicia was a kind student with a big heart, who reached out and was well-liked by many students and friends throughout Pennfield High School. She will be missed."

The accident is under investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff Accident Reconstruction team.
