Pedestrian Struck and Killed on 28th Street
KENTWOOD -

28th Street was closed for several hours Thursday morning due to a fatal accident.

A pedestrian was struck on 28th Street west of Patterson Avenue shortly after 5 a.m. The investigation into the accident closed the road in the area until about 8:00 a.m.

The Kentwood Police Department has not released the identity of the victim, but said the victim was carrying an Indiana driver's license and a Resident Alien card. As a result, investigators are working with the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The victim was apparently carrying a plastic bag of groceries, which seem to have been purchesed earlier at the Meijers Inc store at Kraft Avenue SE.

The driver, a 58 year old male from Cascade Township, was driving his Chevy pickup when the accident happened. Police say alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash, and no charges are expected to be filed against him at this time.

This is only the second fatal traffic accident in Kentwood in 2009.
