OWAA National Conference

GRAND RAPIDS - An event at a Grand Rapids shooting range today is helping West Michigan move against the impact of a slow economy.

Members of the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) took aim at the West Walker Sportsman Club shooting range in Grand Rapids.

Today's even is part of a four day national conference, which has a positive impact on the local economy in more ways than one. The group spends thousands of dollars during the actual event, and many of the members actually write about their experience in the host city after the event takes place.

"We had 200 different stories written about us last time we hosted in 1992," said OWAA member Camie Lies. "So they're going to have a real wonderful benefit here."

Organizers say nearly $500,000 is spent during the conference, and could bring in as much as $50 million dollars in future revenue.
