UPDATE: 1 Killed And 3 Hurt In Rollover On I-96 In Kent County
LOWELL TOWNSHIP - One person died and three others were injured in a rollover accident on Interstate 96 in southeastern Kent County early Saturday.

According to the Michigan State Police Rockford post, the accident occurred at 9 a.m. on I-96 at Morse Lake Road near mile marker 50 in Lowell Township. Officers said a preliminary investigation showed that Erica Slagler, 17, of West Oliver was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer eastbound on I-96 when she lost control of the vehicle and sideswiped a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Juan Hilton of Grand Rapids.

Hilton's Pathfinder, which contained four people, then left the roadway, entered a ditch and rolled over.

A passenger in the rear seat, Andres Martinez, 26, of Grand Rapids, was pronounced dead at the scene. The three other occupants all were transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

An AeroMed helicopter was involved in transporting the accident victims. Eastbound I-96 was closed and traffic was being rerouted on M-6 and Alden Nash Road after the crash, which remains under investigation. Anyone with any information about the accident should contact Trooper Joe Young at the Rockford Post, (616) 866-4411.

Rockford troopers were assisted at the scene by AeroMed, the Rockford/Lowell Ambulance, the Cascade Township and Bowne Township fire departments, the Kent County Road Commission and the Kent County Sheriff's Department.
