BELMONT—
She's just 8-years-old, but little Riley Homer knows she wants to help people less fortunate than her. Now, with the help of her family in Belmont, she's making it happen. It started with the dream of owning a restaurant that feeds the hungry. But with such an unattainable goal, her family suggested an alternative: homemade gift bags.
"One time we went to my grandma's house and she showed me how to do it and I tried and then I learned," Riley said. Now it's part of the weekly routine with Riley sewing gift bags with her grandmother every Monday.
They come in three sizes and sell for $3 or less. The proceeds go to God's Kitchen in Grand Rapids. In two months, Riley has raised more than $180. Her mom, Kathy, says it might not sound like much, but it's not the amount that matters.
"I'm impressed by it, but not surprised. She definitely has a good heart," said Kathy.
