VAN BUREN COUNTY - A fatal accident killed two men in Van Buren County over the weekend, but tonight there are new questions about the accident. Police are saying one of their own vehicles hit a car at the scene as they were responding. Now investigators want tot know why that information wasn't in the original report.

The accident happened early Saturday morning on the Red Arrow Highway near 30th St in Antwerp Township. Police believe Keith Rapp crossed the center line and hit Jeffery Haas' truck. When emergency crews arrived, Rapp's SUV was already up in flames. Police now say the smoke from that fire along with light rain created poor visibility conditions.

It could be what caused three related accidents, all involving emergency responders. A Lawton Police car skidded off the road and hit a mailbox. A Paw Paw fire truck was slightly damaged when it scraped the side of Rapp's SUV. And a Paw Paw Police officer ran into the back of Haas's truck.

"The officer's car knocked off the rear axle and both tires were actually pushed near the front tires. The truck probably went about 50 feet, like a shuffleboard," said Dan Jeffers, a witness to the accident.

Jeffery Haas, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene. Keith Rapp, 37, died the next day at the hospital. The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department, the County Medical Examiner and Michigan State Police are investigating the accidents.
