GRAND RAPIDS—
This week the Grand Rapids Ballet Company will perform 'Jack the Ripper,' the true story of a serial killer who murdered five women in 1888. The ballet calls it art, but some say bringing it to the stage is going too far.GRBC dancers take the stage at DeVos Performance Hall starting Friday to depict the tale that's been told for generations. According to Director Gordon Peirce Schmidt it's the first time the story's transformed into a ballet.
The ballet calls it a tribute, not to the Ripper, but to his victims. But some victims of violence think the on-stage blood is too realistic and want the GRBC to go in a different direction.
