KENT COUNTY - The Michigan State Police recently released a study of the Top 100 High Crash Roads in Michigan for 2008, and Alpine Avenue Northwest in Alpine Township was number five.

According to the study, there were 54 accidents last year in the area of Alpine Avenue NW between 4 mile and Henze. That breaks down to about one accident a week.

Those who live and work in the area say it's because people are in too much of a hurry and they run red lights.

Other roads in Kent County that made it into the top 100 are:
  • Alpine Ave. NW between Center Dr. and Coventry
  • 28th Street SE between Eastern and Brooklyn
  • East Beltline Ave. NE between Bradford and Leonard
The Top 10 list of high crash roads is as follows:
  1. 1. Ford between Lilley and Ikea Drive -- Canton
  2. 2. Ford between Haggerty and S. I-275 ramp -- Canton
  3. 3. Garfield between 19 Mile and Cove -- Clinton Township
  4. 4. Mound between 11 Mile near Mound ramp and 12 Mile -- Warren
  5. 5. Alpine NW between 4 Mile NW and Henze NW -- Alpine Township
  6. 6. S. Mission between Broomfield and Appian -- Mount Pleasant
  7. 7. Garfield between Dove and Hall -- Clinton Township
  8. 8. Highland between Airport Road and Dundee -- Waterford
  9. 9. W. I-96 between Novi exit and entrance ramps -- Novi
  10. 10 (a). Haggerty between 6 Mile and Fox -- Livonia
  11. 10 (b). S. Rochester between W. Auburn and Barclay -- Rochester Hills
