KALAMAZOO - A meth lab is believed to have been the cause of an late night fire that damaged about half the units at Fox Ridge Apartments in Kalamazoo.

Fire crews were called around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday and found a large fire waiting for them rapidly spreading on the second floor of the apartments in the 1500 block of Alamo Hills.

It took about an hour for Kalamazoo Public Safety crews to control the blaze, said Fire Marshal Jim Williams.

Investigators early on determined that the apartment where the fire started contained a methamphetamine lab. Officers from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team were called in to assist in the investigation.
