GRAND RAPIDS -
Voters will hit their polling places tomorrow.
In Kent County, the most widespread issue is the millage vote which seeks to renew the current millage supporting The Rapid plus add financial support for the proposed "Silver Line," an express bus route on Division Avenue between downtown Grand Rapids and 60th Street. But opponents say the millage is unfair, as residents of several communities which are served by The Rapid and pay for support will not benefit directly from the new route. The 1.6 mill increase would mean an extra $12 in taxes a year for the owner of a $150,000 home.
School board elections in most districts in West Michigan will be held as well. In the election with the highest profile, three seats are up for grabs in the Grand Rapids Public Schools, where the relationship between the district and the teachers union has taken the front seat.
