BATTLE CREEK - The Battle Creek Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred at about 10:50 p.m. Friday.

Officers were dispatched to the area of Nelson and Lathrop streets in Battle Creek where they discovered a 25-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his face. The victim was transported to the hospital where he is being treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

According to Battle Creek Police Sgt. Ken Millikin, the incident stemmed from an altercation between the victim and other people at a party in the 80 block of Nelson Street. Millikin said the argument moved outside, at which time two to three shots were fired and the victim was struck once in the mouth.

Millikin said police are looking for a white male armed with a small caliber handgun.
