GRAND RAPIDS—
Local photographer Terri Vruggink of East Grand Rapids was in Haiti when the earthquake hit. She photographed a lot of the people and the devastation and is now sharing her first hand account with Fox 17 news.Terri was in Haiti taking pictures for a group called Mission Possible. She learned about the team through two local doctors who are volunteering their time in the country.
Terri was in Haiti for three days before the earthquake hit.
"I quickly stood up and it knocked me back down on the bed," she said. "It sounded like a train."
The next day, she headed toward the devastation and photographed what she saw in the streets and in hospitals nearby.
"I leaned towards the pictures that show not just the devastation or broken down buildings, but the ones that show the people, the spirits and their eyes, and you can see that there's still hope there and that we need to do more for them," she said.
