KALAMAZOO - Kalamazoo Valley Family Church isn't a new name in the Kalamazoo area, but what is new is their 85,000 square foot addition.

The church celebrated their grand opening Saturday and Sunday.

Church leaders say year after year they've managed to outgrow their space, so they decided to go all out and make it huge.

The church has a 1,500 seat auditorium, six spacious preschool rooms, a multi-media elementary auditorium featuring a game room and slide access for children, and a high school auditorium with a snack bar. The building also houses an expanded bookstore and a fully functioning cafe with sandwhiches.

Today's opening service included break dancers, multi-colored lights, smoke machines, and an enourmous worship team.

Because of today's crowds, volunteers had to help guide drivers in and out of the packed parking lots.

Back when the church was considering its expansion, many neighbors expressed their concerns. They didn't want their quiet neighborhood to become a traffic nightmare, and were worried about bright lights in the parking lot.

Since then a large dirt mound has been built up with trees to help block neighbor's view of the church parking lot.

Executive Director Aaron Johnson said that while this type of church isn't for everyone, it reaches thousands of people where they're at and uses current culture to help convey God's word.
