GRAND RAPIDS—
Deputy Fire Chief Laura Knapp was named Wednesday as Acting Fire Chief for the Grand Rapids Fire Department. The appointment was made by Interim City Manager Eric DeLong.
Knapp will perform the duties of retiring Chief John VanSolkema until a new chief is appointed. That process has not been finalized.Acting Chief Knapp has been with the department since 1984, was named Battalion Chief in 1999 and Deputy Chief in 2004, said release from DeJong.
