HOWARD CITY -
In court, sometimes it's your word against theirs. But police officers in Montcalm county say they're about to make their cases a lot stronger thanks to some new technology.
The Howard City Police Department recently received 24 'Scorpion' video recorders. At just over 2 inches, the camera is the size of a thumb. It records both audio and video in high definition, and clips right on to an officers uniform.
"It eliminates false claims," says Chief Steve DeWitt. "It eliminates 'he said, she said' types of situations in court. And this has 100% helped out with evidence for officers. No officer has felt uncomfortable with this."
Chief DeWitt kept three of the cameras and then distributed the rest to other police agencies in Montcalm County. He hopes to get additional funding from donors to buy enough Scorpions for all officers in the county.
