HOLLAND - The city of Holland's transportation director says how soon the washed-out portion of 24th Street is repaired will be decided next week.

Jodi Syens told FOX 17 NEWS this morning that representatives of the Grand Rapids engineering firm Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber are drafting a proposal for either replacing or repairing the stretch of 24th Street that has featured a six-foot-deep hole since it was destroyed by seven inches of rain June 19.

The engineers will present a preliminary report of their findings to the drain commissioners for Allegan and Ottawa counties next Thursday. The drain commissioners then will be choose whether to replace or repair the roadway.

"It won't be decided whether we're going to replace or repair it until next week," Syens said.

She said no timetable has yet been established for either the replacement or the repairs.

"It could be toward the end of summer or it could be sooner," said Syens. "It depends on the decision they make next week on whether to go with a new structure."
