HOLLAND—
Several West Michigan companies are teaming up to keep the people of Haiti dry. After the massive earthquake in January, hundred of thousands of people were left homeless. Many now live in tent cities made out of things like bed sheets and sticks. But with the rainy season threatening to make the dire situation worse, several West Michigan companies are helping out.
Taylor Rental, Brink Truck Lines, Lamar Construction and Kentwood Rentals are bringing a semi-truck load of supplies, including graduation-style tents. "Money is a little tight right now, but we had time and the know-how to do this," said Tyce Holst, president of Taylor Rental.
With the help of a few local churches, the group will take 40 large event tents, another 40 camping tents, plus water and hygiene kits. They're also taking a pick-up truck to help disperse supplies, but it'll be left there when they're done.
Workers from the companies will head down to Haiti to unload the materials in mid-April.
