H1N1 Death in Grand Rapids Area
GRAND RAPIDS - The Kent County Health Department says a they've been notified of a second death associated with H1N1 influenza virus. This case is a 33-year-old man who lived in Kent County. But unlike the case last week, there did not appear to be underlying health conditions in this case.

"We express our deepest sympathies to the victim's family and friends," said Cathy Raevsky, Administrative Health Officer for the Kent County Health Department. "This is the second time this month that influenza has caused a fatality, and this illustrates why we need to take the virus seriously."

The Health Department points out that 36,000 people die of the seasonal flu in the U.S. every year, and another 200,000 end up in the hospital. This is why it's important to know when to seek medical attention or emergency care.
