Father And Son Are Arrested After Early-Morning Shooting
BIG RAPIDS - A father and son have been arrested and attempted homicide charges are being sought after a teenager was shot in the arm in Big Rapids early Saturday.

According to Big Rapids Department of Public Safety Det. Brian Miller, officers were called to a report of a shooting at 12:54 a.m. at Adams and North Fourth streets in Big Rapids. Upon arriving they found a 19-year-old male from Big Rapids with a gunshot wound to his right arm. The teen was taken to the Mecosta County Medical Center in Big Rapids where he was treated and released.

Miller said the teenager was walking home when he was confronted by a 24-year-old Remus man after an altercation earlier in the evening between that man and friends of the 19-year-old. Miller said the Remus man then fired a shot at the teen that struck him in the arm.

Big Rapids police arrested the 24-year-old and his 49-year-old father, also from Remus, for the shooting. Miller said charges are being sought for attempted homicide, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, reckless firing of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol against the 24-year-old, and charges of reckless firing of a weapon and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime against his father.
