GRAND RAPIDS - Michael Maynard's morning started off pretty normal on Monday. He dropped his wife off at work, then headed out to work on a vehicle when he remembered that he'd left some of the tools he needed at home.

When he got back to the home in the 100 block of Eastern Avenue, he found smoke pouring out onto the porch, then called the fire department.

He was able to move a van that was parked there, as a neighbor also made a call to emergency services.

Maynard says no one was home this morning when the fire apparently started. He was concerned that a neighbor that lives upstairs may have been home, but it turns out the home was vacant.

No one was injured, but there was some damage left behind.

No word yet on what caused it, or a dollar amount for the damage.
