BRIDGETON TOWNSHIP - A motorcycle rider was killed and a passenger injured Saturday evening in Newaygo County.

Michigan State Police Newaygo Post troopers were called to a report of a motorcycle accident on Warner Avenue just north of 118th Street at 10:55 p.m.

Their investigation showed that the motorcycle was southbound on Warner when it left the paved portion of the roadway, entered the gravel shoulder and the driver lost control. The motorcycle laid down onto its side, causing both riders to be thrown onto the roadway.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger sustained minor injuries. Their names have not yet been released, pending notification of relatives.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The Michigan State Police said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Grant Fire Department and Life EMS.
