MARCELLUS TOWNSHIP - A pedestrian who died after being struck by a train in Cass County early Sunday has been identified.

Sheriff Joseph Underwood Jr. said Cass County deputies were called to investigate a fatal crash involving a train and a pedestrian near the intersection of Burlington Road and Pioneer Street in Marcellus Township at 1:16 a.m. Sunday. Deputies originally listed the day of the accident as Saturday but said Sunday night that that was an error.

The victim's identity originally was withheld pending notification of the family. Police Sunday night identified him as Bryan Shelly, 17, of Marcellus.

Friends and family have already started a Facebook group to honor the young man.

Marcellus Fire and Ambulance assisted deputies at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
