ALLEGAN COUNTY -
This year's Bikers for Babies event, benefiting the March of Dimes, broke attendance records. Organizers say about 1,000 bikers participated, about double last year's numbers.
The event took place at the US131 Motorsports Park in Martin.
Around 11:15 Sunday morning, bikers took off for a 70 mile ride around Gun Lake and surrounding areas. This year organizers also added exotic cars to the group.
After the ride, bikers came back and participated in drag racing and held a silent auction also benefiting the March of Dimes. Organizers hope to raise $90,000, and with this year's numbers they'll probably reach it.
The March of Dimes is an organization that helps raise awareness and money for premature babies. Nearly 500,000 babies are born premature each year, that's one in eight children.
Those affected by premature births say they hope events like Bikers for Babies continue so further research can be done and eventually the dangers of premature births can be eliminated.
