GRANT TOWNSHIP -
A 69-year-old Big Rapids man died when his off-road vehicle flipped and landed on top of him Saturday night.
According to the Michigan State Police Reed City Post, a passer-by found the man pinned beneath the four-wheeler at the intersection of 160th Avenue and Beech Road in Mecosta County's Grant Township at 10:20 p.m. The 69-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man's name has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
Troopers believe the victim lost control of the ORV while attempting to turn north from Beech onto 160th, causing the four-wheeler to overturn and then land on top of him. No other people or vehicles are believed to have been involved in the accident.
The man was not wearing a helmet and troopers said it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Mecosta County EMS Alpha 1 and the Big Rapids Fire Department assisted at the scene.
