GRAND HAVEN -
A 13 year veteran of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety was arrested Tuesday on domestic assault charges.
The officer is identified as Dana Bryce DeVries. Neighbors say her husband, James DeVries, who is also a Grand Have Public Safety employee, had been moving out of the house over the past few weeks. The department has initiated an internal investigation. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department will conduct the investigation as requested by Grand Haven Public Safety.
In a release, Public Safety Director Dennis Edwards acknowledged that such an incident reflects on the entire department.
On Monday, former public safety officer Tom Carey was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he admitted to having affairs with two women in the Grand Haven area. While the sex was consensual, the Ottawa County prosecutor claimed the women were vulnerable due to Carey's status as a police officer and their own psychological issues.
