GRAND HAVEN -
He was a public servant for two decades who served as a public safety officer in Grand Haven.
Now, he's under investigation for possible criminal misconduct all while he was on the job.
The Director of the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety sent out a statement on Tuesday stating one of their own has resigned in the midst of allegations of misconduct.
Now it's up to the legal system to find out what if any wrongdoing took place. Michigan State Police Lt. Curt Schram said "We were contacted by the Grand Haven Public Safety. They requested a criminal investigation concerning one of their employees."
The details are sketchy, but investigators say the alleged misconduct went on for two years taking place in Ottawa County and on the job.
A citizen reported the allegations to the department back in June.
Since then, the veteran cop of 20 years has resigned. "It's an allegation of misconduct and it's our job to investigate it fairly and thoroughly and we have done that,"said Schram.
Since the alleged misconduct happened in Ottawa County the case was turned over to the Kent County prosecutor's office to avoid conflict of interest. So what kind of misconduct are we talking about here? "We're not going to comment on those allegation at this time,"said Schram.
Still a lot of questions but investigators say they want to make sure all of them are eventually answered. At this time the officer's name is not being released to the public.
