1,000 Locally Grown Christmas Trees Headed To Troops
WEST MICHIGAN - The National 'Trees For Troops' Campaign has set a goal to send 16,000 trees to 16,000 troops during the holiday season.

In coordination with the 'Christmas Spirit Foundation' and with the help of FedEx, families at more than 40 military bases will receive an evergreen this year.

About 1,000 of those trees will be sent from Wahmhoff Farms in Gobles Michigan. The farm, located at 23090 M-40 Highway, will be loading the trees starting at 10:00am Monday.

The Michigan grown trees are destined for Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Besides the donations from the tree farms around the area, many individuals and families have donated the funds to send the trees. Donors were given the opportunity to write a handwritten letter of thanks and encouragement to the troops receiving the gift.

Not only are the trees headed to bases around the United States, they'll also be going to Navy ships and to countries in the Middle East.

Many of the troops who have written words of thanks back to donors on the program's website, say the addition of the live Christmas trees really brighten up their holiday season.
