ALLEGAN COUNTY—
A man accused in the planning and murder of 25-year old Brandon Silverlight has been found guilty.Silverlight was murdered, then burned last year in Casco Township.
24-year old Justin Andrew Terpstra on Tuesday was found guilty on five counts, including Open Murder, Felony Murder, Kidnapping and Torture. His sentencing has not come down yet.
23-year old Alison Lane Martin has also been charged with open murder and conspiracy to commit murder. A verdict has not yet been decided.
They both face life sentences.
Martin is Silverlight's ex-girlfriend. Police say he filed a personal protection order against him, which had expired.
They were friends, police say.
Terpstra is Martin's fiance. Detectives say they lured Silverlight to an empty seasonal trailer park, beat him, then took him to another location where he was murdered, then burned.
Martin's attorney said she is innocent.
"This comes as a shock to her, and her family and plans to vigorously defend this case," said Portage Attorney David Moore.
Moore asked for $100,000 bond for his client. The magistrate denied bond for both.
